Great Changes at Alpine Country Club

Ed Kirby was the first person on the cover of Ocean State Golf. When he said, “You’ve got to come visit our club and see how great it is,” I could not say no.

Kirby, 45, who played on the PGA Tour for a year and in four U.S. Opens making the cut in three, is now in his seventh year as head professional at Alpine Country Club. His upbeat demeanor and enthusiasm for life could probably make him a million dollars in marketing, but he is thrilled to be the “face” of Alpine. “This is such a great club, wonderful course and terrific members,” said Kirby on a recent visit.

“I was more successful than some, but not as successful as most,” smiled Kirby of his 11 years on the Asian, African and American tours. Members love his knowledge and enjoy being with him. He took some members down to Florida this past winter and won a pro-am tournament with them. “I needed to settle down, and this is a great place to do it,” added Kirby who is married to Susan and the father of Marissa, who will soon be four.
